Tehran, March 6 – Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili held separate talks with the speakers of Lebanese Parliament and Afghan Senate on the issue of Palestine and regional developments.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference for Support for Palestine, the Model of Resistance, and Gaza the Victim of War Crimes which began in the Iranian capital on March 4 in Tehran.
In his meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Jalili said “Lebanon’s Islamic resistance is regarded as an auspicious sapling which grew and spread its roots under hard conditions. It has now turned into a strong tree in the entire region and disrupted all political and military calculations of the Zionist regime and its westerns allies.”
“Since the new US president came to office with the motto of change, we should wait and see future political developments in the region in order to judge his claim,” Jalili said.
In a another meeting with Afghan Speaker of the Senate (House of the Elders) Sibghatullah Mojaddedi, Jalili said the US and the western countries do not know how to deal with the Afghan issues due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of the existing realities in that region.
Afghanistan is a country with courageous and zealous people who never yield to colonialism, he said.
“If they had dispatched tractors instead of tanks to Afghanistan, the country?s situation would have improved,” he underlined.
Mojaddedi, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support for Afghan people during war and post war eras and said existing ties between the two nations are deep rooted and brotherly.
Meanwhile Palestinian official responsible for Foreign Relations of Political Department of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine thanked Iran for organizing Conference in Support of Palestine.
“We practically need such conferences to support the Palestinian cause,” Abu Khalil told IRNA on the sidelines conference. “We thank Iran for its overwhelming support for the cause of Palestine.”
Asked to comment on an Arab leader?s statement calling on Iran to stand aside from the issue of Palestine, he said that the Arab leaders have stood idle over the past 60 years and now that Iran supports Palestine, they say Palestine is an Arab issue.
He said that the Arab leaders have no courage to say no to Israel.
