Tehran, March 12 The IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Wednesday considered greater solidarity among regional countries as a necessity for countering negative effects of west’s economic crisis.
According to IRNA, the IRI President’s information website reported that President Ahmadinejad made the comment on Wednesday evening in a meeting with the Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Shara on the sidelines of the 10th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Tehran Summit, adding that Syria’s presence at the meeting was quite beneficial and fruitful.
Emphasizing the need for strengthening the foundations of solidarity within the Islamic world, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) further reiterated, “The status quo, keeping in mind the victories that the Hezbollah and the Palestinian resistance have gained against the Zionist regime, is in favor of the justice front and the Islamic world.”
He meanwhile stressed the need for the regional countries’ ever increasing alertness in heeding the plots hatched by certain oppressor countries, aimed at sowing the seeds of discord among the Islamic countries.
Turning to bilateral ties, he said, “Fortunately Tehran-Damascus relations have always been excellent at tactical and strategic levels.”
The Syrian vice president, too, said during the meeting that the ECO Tehran Summit was quite successful, adding, “The close cooperation between Iran and Syria has played an important role in harbingering positive developments in the region.”
